Downloading Satyrn AI Models
Posted by Al Sweigart in misc
Satyrn AI is a project from the Python and Jupyter community to develop local models with a Python-focus. I think it has great promise to figure out local AI-assisted coding from trusted, free resources. You can find more information on https://satyrn.ai. I'll be updating this blog post with the latest instructions for downloading and running these models with Ollama or other local model software.
Paul Everitt's closing keynote for EuroPython 2026 gives a good overview of the project's goals and scope. From the project website:
Satyrn Models focuses on fine-tuning small language models that run locally on a developer's laptop. The goal is practical: models that understand Python well enough to assist with everyday coding tasks — refactoring, debugging, writing tests — without sending your code to the cloud.
Currently, the Satyrn project has released one model, Qwen3.8-27B-py3.15. To install it to run on Ollama, run the following command (after you've installed Ollama):
ollama run hf.co/satyrn-ai/Qwen3.8-27B-py3.15:Q4_K_M
The Ornith model is still currently under development.
