RimWorld Mod - Free Lunch

Posted by Al Sweigart in misc

I generated a mod for RimWorld called Free Lunch that adds adds a packaged survival meal bill to stoves and campfires that can be created for zero resources and 1 unit of work. This is OP, but useful if you just want to remove food production entirely as a factor in your game. Who says there's no such thing as a free lunch? The source code is in a git repo.

You can craft a "free packaged survival meal" at a campfire, fueled stove, or electric stove. It takes some time to produce, but less than a regular meal. There are zero ingredients.

What I like to do in my games is add a bill to "Do until you have X" and set it to 1. This way, I still grow and cook food as normal, but making a mistake doesn't result in my colony suddenly starving because there will always be one packaged survival meal. It's like Half Life's "buddha" cheat that lets you take damage normally but stops at 1 hit point.

This mod was originally written by me, and later refactored with Claude Code.
